Wave Hill Announces 2012 Winter Workspace Program
December 2011
Now in its third year, Wave Hill’s Winter Workspace Program transforms Glyndor Gallery into a space for artists to create new work and develop ongoing projects. Ten contemporary artists, representing an array of artistic practices, will be in residence over two, six-week sessions, from early January until late March 2012. Artists open their studios to engage with the public, giving visitors the opportunity to converse with the artists and learn about the creative process behind each project. Winter Workspace artists also lead hands-on demonstrations open to the public.

This signature series for avid gardneers kickas off January 18 with a lecture by architect Larry J. Wente. Author and lawyer Barbara Paul Robinson follows on February 22, and the series finishes with a lecture by landscape architect Thomas L. Woltz on March 21. Wave Hill Van Lier Visual Artist Fellowship

Wave Hill announces a new fellowship program for young artists. The Van Lier Visual Artist Fellowship, funded by the Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund of the New York Community Trust, provides an opportunity for two young artists to develop the skills and professional credentials needed to establish a successful career as visual artists.

Wave Hill Commissions Choreographer Merián Soto for One-Year Residency

Wave Hill has commissioned award-winning choreographer Merián Soto to return to the Bronx, her artistic home, to develop a site-specific project during a one-year residency. Soto’s project is Wave Hill’s 2011–2012 generated@wavehill commission, a program that provides artists the opportunity to create temporal work for the grounds. Over the next 12 months, Soto will develop and perform Branch Dances at Wave Hill. This year-long work consists of four outdoor performances, one each season, beginning fall 2011.

Wave Hill Expands Accessibility to Gardens with New All-terrain Wheelchair

Thanks to the generous support by The Morris P. Leibovitz Foundation, Wave Hill offers visitors an all-terrain, manually operated wheelchair available for the elderly and disabled to better enjoy Wave Hill’s beautiful gardens and grounds. Specifically designed for outdoor use, the wheelchair has all-terrain wheels that provide a comfortable and safe ride.

2011 AIM Biennial Joint Exhibition at Bronx Museum of the Arts and Wave Hill

For three decades, the Bronx Museum of the Arts' Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) program has helped to demystify the often opaque professional practices of the art world for artists at the beginning of their careers, and has introduced the work of these emerging artists to the public. The AIM Biennial will be curated by Wayne Northcross and Jose Ruiz, and will consist of a joint exhibition opening June 26, 2011, at the Bronx Museum and Wave Hill, the two largest institutions in the Bronx dedicated to showcasing the work of local emerging artists.

Wave Hill Announces Restoration of Grand Hudson River Valley Mansion

Wave Hill is pleased to announce that historic Wave Hill House, the largest structure on the institution’s grounds, is undergoing transformative improvements that will meet the expectations of the 21st century visitor. Since the early 1960s, the house has been transformed many times to accommodate the change of Wave Hill House’s use from residence to public cultural institution. During the entire project, visitors can expect to enjoy all the amenities they are accustomed to at Wave Hill, including regular programming and food service.
