By combining plants and cables David Lefkowitz presents a symbiotic relationship between the natural and the synthetic. The Flora: Introduced Species series is painted in a style reminiscent of Dutch flower paintings that lends an air of authority to the representation of the inventions. By isolating a single “plant” one does not know the extent to which the new species inhabits the earth. There is no indication to how this plant might be rooted, but the fact that the technological element is usually a cable that attaches, and connects, hints to us that this new species has the potential to be extremely invasive.
