In Stas Orlovski’s paintings plants sprout numerous body parts. Eyes replace flowers in a group of wildflowers, feet extend from a tree, and eyes shed tears from the middle of a howling storm cloud. He is inspired by folklore and autobiography as well as studies of 18th and 19th century garden architecture and botanical illustrations. These creations could exist in a world of the past or the future. His hybridized working process involves layering hundreds of individual drawings that recombine into a final painting to hint at haunting incidental discoveries in the landscape.
