| As
a child, Alice Momm created houses among the roots
of trees with objects found in nature. Looking back
on her childhood and watching her son grow up, the
roots of then and now have become intertwined. The
Root Dwellers Return is a tiny village at the
base of the large copper beach tree below Glyndor
House. Using twigs, moss, acorns and pebbles found
at the tree’s base, Momm creates room after
room encircling this beloved tree with mystery. The
miniature fields and homes, bridges and paths suggest
the work of the root dwellers, coming to re-establish
their domain. In this new installation she explores
the magic of roots, childhood and imagination.
Enchantment is Alice Momm’s first outdoor
work. In 2005, she will participate in Childhood,
a group exhibition in organizational stage in Germany.
