Heat and the Heartbeat of the City is an immersing, web-based sound installation that monitors the changing climate in Central Park during the summers from the 1990s through the present, to 2080, with projected data using NASA developed models. The sonifications illustrate dramatic climate changes as a result of global warming. The project is conceived and directed by Andrea Polli with scientific collaborators Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, David Rind and Richard Goldberg of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia University; with video by Morgan Barnard.
In The Queensborough Bridge Wind Power Project, Andrea Polli presents a vision for a future where efficient energy production can enhance the beauty of a city. This project refits the bridge with a series of wind turbines that would power the lights for the bridge and adjacent walkways through renewable energy. The project builds on the structure of this historic bridge and brings it into the 21st Century in an aesthetical and dramatic way that argues for revisiting energy usage in other places. This project is conceived and directed by Andrea Polli, with video directed by Morgan Barnard, and computer models by Markus Maurette; featuring Dr. Cynthia Rosenzweig, Senior Research Scientist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and leader of the Climate Impacts Group.
