July 20-August 22, 2004

Through the anticipation and promise of catching a wedding bouquet, artist Anissa Mack explores the space between a meaningful symbol and joyful kitsch. Beginning July 20, Ms. Mack will organize a daily bouquet toss. Wearing a veil and dress, a designated bride will toss a wedding bouquet of fresh flowers from pergola every day at 2pm. Ms. Mack draws on the desire felt by many visitors to participate in a wedding in Wave Hill’s gardens. In recreating the bouquet toss, she takes a simple gesture in which the bride bestows her own good fortune on others. Each toss stimulates conversation between visitors, memories of other weddings, and exchange of other cultural transitions related to weddings. All visitors, men, women, and children are invited to assemble and experience the anticipation, luck and joy of the caught bouquet.

On August 1st, visitors can attend a garden party at 2:30pm to experience a 'studio visit' in a garden setting. For reservations, call 718.549.3200 x248.
