Wave Hill

The Visual Arts Program at Wave Hill presents the work of contemporary artists who explore, demonstrate, or otherwise reflect upon the dynamic relationship between people and nature through exhibitions in Glyndor Gallery, the Sunroom Project Space, and generated@wavehill, as well as through the Winter Workspace Program.

Sunroom Project Space
Application Deadline: April 2012; information will be posted in February 2012.

The Sunroom Project Space is a venue for New York-area emerging artists to create site-specific work for a six-week solo show or special project in one of the two windowed sunrooms on the ground floor of Glyndor House. Images of the Sunroom Project Space are available here. A call-to-artists will be issued in spring 2012 to identify artists for the 2013 season. Check back in February for information and guidelines.

General Opportunities
Application deadline for 2012 has passed; new guidelines will be posted in the fall of 2012.

The curators identify artists for Glyndor Gallery, the Winter Workspace Program and generated@wavehill in many different ways. Artists may submit their work for consideration for future opportunities and are strongly encouraged to visit before submitting. Submissions will be reviewed within two months after the deadline.

Glyndor Gallery: Two or three thematic group exhibitions are curated for the spring, summer and fall in Wave Hill’s Glyndor House. In 2013-14, to celebrate the re-opening of the renovated Wave Hill House, arts programming will look at the illustrious former residents of Wave Hill, such as Bashford Dean, Theodore Roosevelt, Arturo Toscanini and Mark Twain. Exhibitions generally combine painting, sculpture, works on paper, installation, photography and some video. Artworks are borrowed and new works are created for exhibition. The gallery occupies three spacious rooms and other ancillary spaces on the main floor of this Georgian Revival house. The rooms are very flexible with excellent natural light, but cannot be fully darkened.

Winter Workspace Program: From January to March, the galleries are turned over to artists to use as workspaces. Participatory projects that engage the public and artists who are interested in studying our collection are encouraged. This program is open to artists living in New York State and offers workspace, not living space. Workspace artists for the 2012 season have been selected. The 2013 artists will be identified in September 2012.

generated@wavehill: An artist is invited to create a temporal project on the grounds that is inspired by Wave Hill.

Van Lier Visual Artist Fellowship
Application Deadline for 2012 has passed; new guidelines will be posted in the fall of 2012.

This one-year artist fellowship is open to New York City-based artists, who are 30 years of age or younger and from culturally diverse backgrounds. It provides valuable mentorship opportunities, including learning from the curatorial staff about the creation and interpretation of exhibitions and arts programming, as well as working with artists and arts professionals to define career paths over the course of the program. Van Lier Fellows are given a studio during the Winter Workspace Program and exhibit a new solo project in the Sunroom Project Space.
