Ed Bisese's Portal is an enchanted passageway to the woods from the overlook at the edge of the lawn, which he created for Wave Hill. He uses materials from everyday life to make this eerie head. Fairy tales are often filled with warnings about the woods and in fact city dwellers are not always comfortable entering the woodland. By choosing to wander through the mouth of this figure that is both menacing and amusing visitors enter the realm of the imagination at their own risk.

Ed Bisese has exhibited in galleries, museums and public venues in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC, and New York. A Condensed History of Baltimore, a miniature golf course he designed, was on view at Art Links Baltimore, Maryland Art Place, Baltimore, MD (1996-1997). In 2002, he was commissioned to create a sculpture prototype for the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission's public art program.
