Created
for Enchantment, Helene Brandt’s sculpture
Charion is inspired by the chariot of Nott,
the Norse Goddess of the Night, who rides across the
sky every evening. With a miniature seat on its back,
Charion appears to be carrying invisible creatures
out of the woods. Brandt transforms welded steel tubing
into a structure that looks like it was created from
scavenged roots. Charion is elegant and graceful
recalling her earlier training as a dancer and her interest
in feeling the movement inherent in the object as she
creates it.
Several of Helene Brandt’s recent exhibitions
include Line, Figure, Enclosures:
Works by Helene Brandt and Linda Lichtenstein,
The Westchester Community College Fine Arts Gallery,
Valhalla, NY (2004); Sticks & Stones 2,
Collaborative Concepts, Beacon, NY (2003) and The
Sculpture of Helene Brandt, Tyler Art Gallery,
Oswego, NY (2003). In 2002, Helene received a New York
City Masterwork Award for her mosaic wall, Room of Tranquility,
at the Yankee Stadium Subway Station. More information
