Fairy
tales and medieval stories are the inspiration for Ann
Chahbandour’s exquisitely detailed sculptures.
Each panel of her Beauty and The Beast Box
depicts a chapter of the beloved tale. The story begins
with the Beast watching Beauty playing with a unicorn
and imagining her captured and guarded by his dog. Becoming
torn between the handsome prince and the wild beast,
Beauty finally chooses the Beast. Staying true to her
commitment of blending diverse materials, she uses wood,
metal and paint to animate this wonderful tale.
Ann Chahbandour’s recent exhibitions include Ann
Chahbandour, Sculpture – Paintings, JMS Gallery,
Chestnut Hill, PA (2002, 2003) and Bare Walls,
School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2002). In addition
to exhibiting extensively throughout this country and
abroad since 1975, she has curated several exhibitions
over the years in New York City and Philadelphia and
has been a member of the Sculptors Guild, of New York
since 1990. |
