Magical
happenings take place in Holly Sears’ paintings
Gold and Overlook. Both paintings
reflect her close observation of the natural world.
Rather than depicting a landscape in its entirety, she
focuses her attention on minute details such as the
bird’s nest in Gold and the tree in Overlook.
They explore the intimacy found in nature and suggest
mysterious creations of unseen beings. Her extreme attention
to detail and elaborate execution translate into enchanting
canvases.
Holly Sears has shown at the Virginia Museum of Fine
Arts, Richmond, VA; Bergen Museum of Art and Science,
Paramus, NJ and recently in Holly Sears, Sightings,
Metaphor Contemporary Art, Brooklyn, NY (2003). She
has been awarded three fellowships from the Virginia
Center for Creative Arts at Sweet Briar and has taught
at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ. Her paintings
are included in numerous public and private collections.
