| The
presence of the Hudson River is one of the defining
features of Wave Hill's site. Although there is no
direct access to the water, the river that flows both
ways predominates as a changing element throughout
the day and year. To explore this connection and literally
insert the river in the gallery, we invited Brandon
Ballengee and Eve Andree Laramee, two artists whose
in-depth projects about the Hudson integrate scientific
study, observation and research. Both installations
incorporate facts about the river's health and focus
on aspects of the river that are not immediately visible
to the eye. Laramee uses the river's form, as shaped
by geologic history and human activity, as a departure
point. Ballengee surveys aquatic life in the river,
demonstrating how it is an estuary.
