Humble, discarded objects provide the material for Hyungsub Shin's sculptures. His elegant centipede is constructed from umbrella ribs that in another life might have blown away in a storm when the umbrella failed. The sculpture hints at the complexity of the centipedes movement and elevates a creature that is the often the focus of disgust. The Smash series preserves the human impulse and common reaction to the sight of a pesky bug.
