Puett embroidered a custom-designed beekeeper's garment
with a motif based on diagrams of the queen bee's
reproductive system as well as lore, wisdom and myth
related to bee grafting. This outfit is unique in
the world of working apparel. The whiteness has a
calming effect on the insects and combined with the
mesh hood and gloves, the bee worker can harvest honey
with little fear of being stung. The garment is surrounded
by beekeepers tools and supplies. At the exhibition
reception, the artist's sister, Barry Puett, who has
been a queen breeder for many years, will wear this
outfit during a bee grafting performance and presentation.
This will be a unique opportunity for visitors to
experience an infrequently observed aspect of beekeeping. |
