Joan
Fontcuberta’s Fauna series is a collection of photographs,
field notes and sketches attributed to the fantastic Dr. Peter
Ameisenhaufen, a scientist who traveled throughout the world
to study strange hybrid creatures and their adaptations. The
documentation of the Threschelonia Atis is exhibited
here. The enterprise presents these creatures as if they actually
exist by detailing the traits, morphology and habits as a
biologist would. Fontcuberta provokes thinking about evolution
and manipulation by employing the authority of natural history
methodology to combine fact and fiction.
