JJunko
Yamada presents Paper Chase, an exhibition
of intricate paper collages. Using thousands of small
pieces of rice paper, she creates highly detailed
American and Japanese landscapes. Currently residing
in Jackson Heights, Queens, Yamada's hometown is Miyazu,
a Japanese beach resort town two hours west of Kyoto,
abounding in waterfalls, trees and mountains. This
setting figures largely in her lyrical work. The artist
hopes to "introduce Japanese life and culture
through her paper works." Junko adds, "Paper
is an important part of our culture dating back more
than one-thousand years. I integrate paper with daily
life by creating a unique small galaxy of beautiful
things." Viewers enter this galaxy through twenty
of Junko's collages, which include the sublime Deer
in Nara Park and Koi.
