K. K.
Kozik’s paintings are full of contradictions.
They reflect a union of two popular art movements, Ashcan
and Rococo, embracing the urbanism of one and the pastoral
ideals of the other. Her new painting Soirée,
envisions Wave Hill in the 1920s with the pergola as
the setting to infuse the scene with a sense of nostalgia.
In Beauty and the Beast, the serenity and softness
of the gardens are juxtaposed with the harsh, rigid
stone beast, unified by the heroine. Daytripper
depicts a man and his dog out of their element. Placing
the figures on opposite sides of the canvas, underscores
the sense of trespassing.
K. K. Kozik’s work is included in Open House:

K. Kozik, Ashcan Rococo, Black and White Gallery,
