The weather is unavoidable: a subject of mundane conversation, daily preoccupation, or – as experienced in the past six months – a source of global catastrophe. Meteorologic Phenomena explores a variety of artistic responses to this elemental force. As evidenced in the works in this exhibition, observing weather is a way to mark time or to establish a connection to a place. Associations with the weather are often deeply personal, and can be humorous as well. The weather is a potent subject that lends itself to the wide range of experiential and process-oriented artwork by Margaret Cogswell, John Dooley, Spencer Finch, Sandy Gellis, Cassandra James, Michael Krondl, Rima Mardoyan-Smyth, Andrea Polli, Kevin Todd, Lisa Young. Site-specific projects by Matthew Geller, Stefan Hagen, Lisa Hein and Bob Seng are outdoors.

Public Programs
June 11, 12, 1-4:00pm, Layers and Layers of Weather,

Family Art Project

See the gardens and lawns of June; behind them, the river; behind it, the palisades and over it all, the constantly changing sky. Cut and paste your visions of clear or stormy weather into a 3-D, multi-layered construction.

Weather Weekend
August 6, 7, 3:00pm, Sound Artist Kitundu, Performance

This San Francisco-based artist performs improvised compositions on handmade wind and balloon powered record players. Atmospheric conditions help dictate how these spool turntables are played. Among other acoustic instruments, Kitundu employs a new wireless invention called the "Stylus Glove" from which he plucks music from the surface of records and transmits it to nearby radios.

August 6, 7, 1-4:00pm, Roll Out the Sky,

Family Art Project

Observe and sketch the expansive sky and changing weather above Wave Hill's lawns and gardens. Then spread sky and landscape across a paper scroll to create a handcrafted movie.

August 7, 2:00pm, Artist Exhibition Tour

View this exhibition of weather-inspired works with the artists and curators.
