Adam Brent’s large-scale sculptural installation, The Ballad of Crook Horn Road, employs the slick language of suburban architecture to explore ideas of domesticity, memory and childhood. Built out of polymer-infused plywood, wire mesh and window panes, the structure references the distinct look of late-1970’s residential design to instill a sense of nostalgia and wistfulness in the work.

Nightshade, an installation by Tamalyn Miller, features four ornately printed canvas window shades that cover the large windows of the Sunroom and completely darken the room. The shades, designed to reference decorative floral motifs popular in the Victorian era, are inscribed with imagery and accompanied by poetic texts relating to several species of poisonous plants. Miller is interested in the mythology and folklore surrounding these plants, which reveal dark, hidden histories.

Lisa Murch draws on her studies of entomology, biology and zoology to create her work, examining the complicated relationships and clever solutions of the natural world through the lens of sculpture and installation. This winter, she enlivens Wave Hill House with Flora and Fauna, an installation on the main staircase. Using ordinary craft materials such as wire and papier-mâché, she has fashioned a leafy green Wisteria vine that winds along the rail and wall of the stairs.
