Pausing to Shift is a meditation on autumn, the season when the landscape changes from the fullness of late summer to the starkness of winter as the last leaves fall onto frozen ground. For this exhibition, David Chow, Cadence Giersbach and Jon Waldo created new works that begin with observation of small moments and distinct aspects of nature. The process of developing the works involves a balance of action and reflection that is also integral to the season. The resulting oil paintings, digitally-inspired, hand-painted wallpaper, and pencil wall drawings convey the shifting landscape. By engaging the walls in different ways, each painter creates a special moment and place for reflection.

Principal funding for the Visual Arts at Wave Hill is provided by the Stephen and Cathy Weinroth Charitable Trust. Sustaining support for Wave Hill is provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Thank you to the artists for creating these works at Wave Hill, and to Amy Lipton, Beacon, NY and Roebling Hall, Brooklyn, NY.
