| Wave
Hill invited six artists to create installations that
transcend the boundaries between the cool elegance
of Glyndor House's Georgian Revival interior and the
lush, complicated, sensual experience of the gardens.
In the way that a window frames the ever-changing
view of the landscape, these installations provide
six ways of looking at, and experiencing, this particular
place. They also challenge the notion of the house
as a container, examining the malleable concepts of
inside/outside, past/present, nature/culture.
Principal funding for the Visual Arts at Wave Hill
is provided by the Stephen and Cathy Weinroth Charitable
Trust. Special thanks to the Canadian Consulate General,
New York, for travel funding and promotional assistance
for Rebecca Belmore. Sustaining support for Wave Hill
and its educational programming is provided by the
New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the
Sally and Gilbert Kerlin Endowment Fund at Wave Hill
for Environmental Science and Nature Education.
Thank you to the artists for creating these works
at Wave Hill, and to their galleries—Angles
Gallery, Santa Monica, CA; Feigen Contemporary, New
York, NY; Gallery Joe, Philadelphia, PA; Bill Maynes
Gallery, New York, NY; and Pari Nadimi Gallery, Toronto,
ON, Canada.
