Ron Terner is a longtime resident of City Island who runs the Focal Point Gallery. Through decades and seasons he has documented this historic seaport community as it moves into the 21st-century. Like Christine Osinski, his photographs evoke the island and the people who have been shaped by the unique location in a tucked-away corner of New York. The inexplicable beauty of winter is captured in Snowy Day and Barbara’s Yard. The unique relationship of the island to the city is captured in City Island Bridge – From the Air.
Ron Terner’s subject go far beyond City Island and include nudes, portraits, and photographs from his travels. His work has been has exhibited and published widely. His photographs is in the permanent collections of Biblioteque Nationale, Paris France; Fotofactory, Oslo, Norway; Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID; and Savannah College of Art and Design. He opened Focal Point Gallery in 1974 where he has held over 100 exhibitions, and teaches workshops for the beginning, intermediate and advanced student on black and white photography, darkroom technique, and digital photography.
