The New York Council for the Humanities and Wave Hill join forces to offer a monthly reading and discussion series. Prof. Tara Weiss of Kingsborough Community College uses the work of science writers and novelists to explore the crisis and call us to responsible action. March 14, discuss Garbage Land: On the Secret Trail of Trash, by journalist Elizabeth Royte, who explores the underworld of detritus and the movement of personal waste to the landfill. Series continues Sundays, April 11, May 16, June 13.
 
Free with admission to the grounds, but registration is required, at www.wavehill.org, by calling 718.549.3200 x305 or at the Perkins Visitor Center when you next visit. Note that subsequent sessions end at 3:30PM. Copies of the books are provided, and will be available at the Perkins Visitor Center as of February 12.
