Metro-North Railroad
Take the Hudson Line local train originating at Grand Central Station to Riverdale. View Metro-North Railroad Schedules

A free Wave Hill shuttle meets northbound trains at 9:45am, 10:45am, 11:45am, 12:45pm, 1:45pm, 2:45pm and 3:45pm. (Southbound passengers may wish to wait a few minutes to meet the free shuttle.) Return shuttles for southbound trains leave Wave Hill’s front gate at 20 minutes past the hour, from 12:20pm through 5:20pm. (Northbound passengers may ride the shuttle van and wait a few extra minutes for the next northbound train.)

Wave Hill is a safe and pleasant, but steep, 15-minute uphill walk from the station. Walk up West 254th Street; turn onto Independence Avenue and continue two long blocks to the Wave Hill Main gate at West 249th Street.


Subway (A, 1)
Take the #1 train to the terminus of the line at West 242nd Street. A free Wave Hill shuttle van meets passengers on the west side of Broadway in front of Burger King at 10 minutes past the hour, from 9:10am to 3:10pm. The shuttle van returns visitors to Broadway in front of Burger King, departing Wave Hill’s front gate on the hour, from noon until 5pm.

You may also take the A train to West 207st Street; transfer there to the Bx7 or Bx20 bus northbound to West 252nd Street. Wave Hill is a pleasant five-minute walk down West 252nd Street from the Henry Hudson Parkway/252nd Street bus stop. Get off at West 252nd Street, cross over the bridge, walk two blocks down West 252nd Street, turn left on Independence Avenue, and proceed one long block to Wave Hill’s front gate at West 249th Street. Returning on foot, follow West 247th Street to the southbound side of the Henry Hudson Parkway service road. There you may board a Bx7 or Bx10 bus back to Broadway and West 231st Street.


Bronx Bus (Bx1, Bx9, Bx12 and Bx7, Bx10)

Take the Bx9 northbound and get off at West 242nd Street to meet a free Wave Hill shuttle van picking up passengers on the west side of Broadway in front of Burger King at 10 minutes past the hour, from 9:10am to 3:10pm. The shuttle van returns visitors to Broadway in front of Burger King, departing Wave Hill’s front gate on the hour, from noon until 5pm.

Take the Bx1, Bx7 or Bx10 to 231st Street and transfer to the Bx9 bus. Take the Bx9 northbound 11 blocks to West 242nd Street to meet the free Wave Hill shuttle van. Take the Bx12 to Fordham Plaza and transfer to the Bx9 northbound.

You may also take the Bx7 or Bx10 bus to West 252nd Street. Wave Hill is a pleasant five-minute walk down West 252nd Street from the Henry Hudson Parkway/252nd Street bus stop. Get off at West 252nd Street, cross over the bridge, walk two blocks down West 252nd Street, turn left on Independence Avenue, and proceed one long block to Wave Hill’s front gate at West 249th Street. Returning on foot, follow West 247th Street to the southbound side of the Henry Hudson Parkway service road. There you may board a Bx7 or Bx10 bus back to Broadway and West 231st Street.

Express Bus (BxM1, BxM2)
BxM1 and BxM2 routes operate between mid-town Manhattan and Wave Hill's 252nd Street bus stop.

BxM1 originates at Third Avenue and 33rd Street, running north along Third Avenue. BxM2 originates at Sixth Avenue and 35th Street, running north along Central Park West. Wave Hill is a pleasant, five-minute walk from the Henry Hudson Parkway/252nd Street bus stop. Make a left off the bus onto 252nd Street, cross over the bridge, walk two blocks down 252nd Street, turn left onto Independence Avenue, and proceed one long block to the Wave Hill Main Gate at 249th Street. When returning, catch the BxM1 or BxM2 on the southbound Henry Hudson service road at 252nd Street or 246th Street. Please note: Express Buses are $5 each way payable with MetroCard, or exact change (dollar bills no longer accepted).

By Car

Parking onsite is $8 per vehicle. Nearby offsite parking is free, with continuous shuttle van service to and from a nearby offsite lot. You may stop at the front gate to ask Wave Hill staff to direct you. Green signs are posted to lead you to the entrance of the offsite lot, which is located south of Wave Hill on Independence Avenue, at or just beyond the Riverdale Country School Lower School. Facing Wave Hill’s front gate, turn left to proceed south on Independence Avenue. Follow the avenue as it winds to the right down a steep hill. The lot is located at the bottom of the hill, just before the road turns to the left to become Palisade Avenue.


From Manhattan West Side:
Take the Henry Hudson Parkway to Exit 21, 246th-250th Street. Continue northbound on the service road to 252nd Street. Turn left onto the overpass. Turn left again at the light. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill gate.

From New Jersey:
From the George Washington Bridge, take the first exit in New York for the Henry Hudson Parkway/Riverside Drive (a right exit from the upper roadway; a left exit from the lower roadway). Follow signs onto the Henry Hudson Parkway North. Take the Henry Hudson Parkway to Exit 21, 246th-250th Street. Continue northbound on the service road to 252nd Street. Turn left onto the overpass. Turn left again at the light. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill gate.

From Westchester County and points north:
Take the Saw Mill River Parkway/Henry Hudson Parkway southbound. (The Saw Mill becomes the Henry Hudson at the City line.) Take Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.

From Connecticut:
Take the Merritt Parkway southbound onto the Hutchinson River Parkway. Take Exit 15 (a left exit) onto the Cross County Parkway westbound. At the end of the Cross County Parkway, keep left for the Saw Mill River Parkway southbound and Henry Hudson Parkway toward New York City. (The Saw Mill becomes the Henry Hudson at the City line.) Take Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign.Turn left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.

From Central and East Bronx via the Mosholu Parkway:
From Pelham Parkway westbound, cross the Bronx River and turn right onto Southern Boulevard northbound. Proceed to the Mosholu Parkway and turn left onto the Mosholu.
From East Tremont Avenue westbound, turn right onto Southern Boulevard northbound. Proceed to the Mosholu Parkway and turn left onto the Mosholu.
From East Gun Hill Road westbound, cross Jerome Avenue and continue to the end of Gun Hill. Turn right onto the Mosholu Parkway.

At the Mosholu Parkway's end, keep right and exit right (as the roadway splits) for the Henry Hudson Parkway southbound. Merge right into the Parkway. Take the second exit, Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.

From Manhattan East Side via the Harlem River Drive:
Take the FDR Drive northbound to the Harlem River Drive northbound. Exit left up the ramp for the Cross Bronx Expressway/George Washington Bridge. Keep right up the ramp and bear right into the local lanes of the Cross Bronx Expressway. Keep right again under the apartments and take the last exit before the bridge, 181st Street/Henry Hudson Parkway. Keep right on the ramp for the Henry Hudson Parkway northbound. Turn left at the light onto 181st Street. Travel one block, turn right, and proceed downhill onto the Parkway. Follow the Henry Hudson Parkway to Exit 21, 246th-250th Street. Continue northbound on the service road to 252nd Street. Turn left onto the overpass. Turn left again at the light. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill gate.

From Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island via the Triborough Bridge:
Take the Grand Central Parkway, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway or Astoria Blvd. onto the Triborough Bridge. At the toll Plaza keep left for the Bronx and through the tolls keep left onto the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) northbound. Take Exit 12, Henry Hudson Parkway/Saw Mill River Parkway. Keep right. As the roadway splits, bear right for the Henry Hudson Parkway southbound. Merge right into the Parkway. Take the second exit, Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign. Turn left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.

From Manhattan East Side and South Bronx via the Major Deegan Expressway:
Take the FDR Drive northbound or First Avenue across the Willis Avenue Bridge keeping left onto the Major Deegan Expressway (I-87) northbound. Continue north on the Major Deegan to Exit 12, Henry Hudson Parkway/Saw Mill River Parkway. Keep right.As the roadway splits, bear right for the Henry Hudson Parkway southbound. Merge right into the Parkway. Take the second exit, Exit 22, 254th Street. Turn left at the stop sign.Turn left at the traffic light onto Riverdale Avenue/Henry Hudson Parkway service road. Turn right at 249th Street and proceed to the Wave Hill Gate.
