Admissions Greeter

As a member of Wave Hill’s Visitor Services Department, the Admissions Greeter helps to provide a positive visitor experience. The Admission Greeter reports to the Visitor Services Manager. 


Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of Front Gate processes 
  • Using Altru, Wave Hill’s operational software system, maintain a consistent log of all visitors 
  • Open and close daily register, ensuring that it is correct and the start and at the end of the day and that there is no shortage or overage in the daily income count
  • Work with other department members on days when there are special events 
  • Interact with visitors to complete a smooth and efficient financial transaction of applicable charges  
  • Work with the Security staff to assist visitors is reaching the proper location in the garden 
  • Assist Visitor Service Manager with reporting daily transaction at the end of day 
  • Handles any issues with a visitor, or directs the visitor to the proper personnel
  • Works with Development Department on procedures for enrolling new Wave Hill Members 
  • Processes quickly large crowds that the Front Gate may experience from time to time, demonstrating accuracy under pressure
  • Responsible for recording incoming package deliveries
  • Maintains the Gatehouse as a functional working area, keeping it clean, tidy and organized
  • Follows Wave Hill’s safety procedures and protocol
  • Provides detailed, accurate reports in a clear comprehensive manner


  • High school degree or equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to handles currency with high degree of  responsibility and accountability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to learn new software systems, especially Altru
  • Excellent customer-service skills
  • Experience in a public garden or cultural institution preferable
  • Experience in visitor services at a public garden or cultural institution a plus
  • Calm professional demeanor
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Flexibility in responding to emergencies while on duty, as well as with other situations that may require immediate attention
  • Ability to remain calm under stress and the ability to interact with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds
  • Flexible schedule―this position requires a four-day week that includes weekends
