With Hidden Noise
May 23 - July 06, 2014
Wave Hill is pleased to present With Hidden Noise, an installation that invites visitors to become absorbed in the act of listening. Curated by sound and media artist Stephen Vitiello and organized by Independent Curators International(ICI), With Hidden Noise is titled after Marcel Duchamp’s ready-made of a ball of string containing a mysterious sound-making object hidden in its folds. The installation brings together evocative sounds, some made by traditional instruments and field recordings, others masked through electronic processes. Artists whose sounds are included in the exhibition are Taylor Deupree, Jennie C. Jones, Pauline Oliveros, Andrea Parkins, Steve Peters, Steve Roden, Michael J. Schumacher and Stephen Vitiello.
Visitors to Glyndor Gallery will experience the range of works in the show in the context of the garden, its summer foliage abundantly present through the windows of the Sun Porch, where With Hidden Noise will be installed. Wave Hill is the only venue in New York City where this travelling exhibition will be presented.
