By contributing their time and talents, hundreds of volunteers—from high school students to retirees—help our gardens and programs grow.

Work Outdoors

Garden Guide
Garden Guides lead personalized tours for visitors highlighting garden areas, history and artistry of Wave Hill's gardens. Tours are split into groups of eight to 12 people with each guide touring a group for about one hour. Tours are scheduled year-round. Guides receive special access to plant collections, programs and staff as well as opportunities to socialize with fellow garden enthusiasts. For more information and qualifications, click here.

Greeter
Welcome and direct the public, hand out support materials and answer questions about the grounds, programs, history and facilities.

Membership Table Assistant
Actively sell memberships, welcome visitors and provide information  at gallery openings, dance performances, theme weekends and  other events.

Work Indoors

Art Gallery Attendant, Visual Arts Program  
Greet visitors at the openings and answer questions about exhibitions and activities.

Business Office Assistant
Help staff run a smooth and efficient operation by assisting with filing, photocopying, typing and faxing.

Development & Membership Assistant
Assist in all office functions including filing, copying, faxing, labeling and stuffing envelopes, and opening and sorting membership mail.

Family Art Project Assistant
A fun, artistic, family-oriented environment, the Family Art Project brings together art and nature for families with children of all ages. Artist and naturalist Ilse Murdock leads the Project from 10AM to 1PM every Saturday and Sunday year-round. (Each week introduces a different theme.) Volunteers are essential, participating alongside program staff, assisting with set-up and clean-up and working with families as needed.  

Public Program Administrative Assistant
Assist in office functions including filing, copying, data entry, and  proofreading spreadsheets. Volunteers should have some database experience and knowledge of Excel and Word.

Public Program Assistant
Assist with adult art workshops, setting up and helping with flow of materials, as well as cleanup. Work at concerts and screenings taking tickets and assisting the public. Assistants have the opportunity to participate in workshops and attend concerts and screenings free of charge. Workshops, screenings and concerts occur during weekend afternoons and volunteers typically work a three-hour shift in the afternoon.

Public Relations Assistant
Assist with press release mailings, Internet research, flyer distribution, general office maintenance and Wave Hill representation at street fairs.

Shop Attendant
Greet visitors, process sales on a computerized register,  price merchandise and assist with inventory.
