"exploring nature, humanity and the paths that lie before us"

A riveting multi-disciplinary presentation, The Crossroads Project weaves together a chorus of artistic and scientific voices to examine Earth’s changing climate. It was conceptualized by physicist Robert Davies and based on his desire to bring science to art-going audiences. Davies’ artist collaborators are composer Laura Kaminsky and painter Rebecca Allan, both Riverdale residents, and the Fry Street Quartet. The ensemble performs works by Haydn, Janáček and a newly commissioned work by Laura Kaminsky, interwoven with live commentary by the physicist. Crossroads explores mankind’s impact on the climate and how society might respond. 80 minutes, no intermission. Recommended for highschool-age students, those concerned about the environment and music lovers of all ages.

Franz Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in B-flat major "Sunrise" Op. 76 (1796-97), first movement

Leoš Janáček:  String Quartet No. 1 "Kreutzer Sonata" (1923), last movement

The Crossroads Project is part of the Composers Now Festival, which celebrates living composers, the diversity of their voices and the significance of their musical contributions to our society. During the month of February, Composers Now brings together dozens of performances presented by venues, ensembles, orchestras, opera companies, dance companies and many other innovative events throughout New York City. Experience the sounds and get to know the creators behind the music. From jazz to indie, from classical to electronic and beyond, join us on a sonic journey through the landscape of the arts of our time. Composers will be in attendance at all events and will be interacting with audiences. Composers Now is a project partner of The Fund for the City of New York.
