Sunset Wednesdays Outdoor Music: Elsa Nilsson Quartet
On the Grounds
Led by improvising flutist Elsa Nilsson, the quartet―Elsa Nilsson, flutes and vocals; Jeff McLaughlin guitar; Alex Minier, bass; Cody Rahn, drums―is a tour de force, weaving the sounds of Brazil, Cuba, Spain, Turkey and the Baltic countries, with the traditional Swedish folk music of Nilsson’s roots. Radio station KSER in Seattle declares Nilsson’s music is “absolutely gorgeous.” Nilsson has two CDs to her credit: Salt Wind, released in 2017, and Already There Yet, released in 2013. In addition to Nilsson’s work as a leader, she composes for and regularly performs in a variety of projects, including a duo with pianist Jon Cowherd and Far Cry Flutes. Nilsson also plays with several singer/songwriters, including Jann Klose and the Wendy Hackett Band, and often collaborates on lyrics with Elizagrace Madrone, who co-wrote a number of lyrics for the Wave Hill concert. Elsa currently resides in Brooklyn. Her performance at Wave Hill includes the world premiere of a suite written for the garden and a cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Fair.”
Free with admission to the grounds. On Sunset Wednesdays, admission is $10, $6 for students and seniors 65+, and $4 for children ages six to 18. Free to Members and children under six.
