Winter Workspace Workshop: Fictitious Portraits in Real Landscapes
Each winter, Wave Hill opens Glyndor Gallery as workspace for New York-area artists, giving them the unique opportunity to explore the winter landscape as a source of inspiration. Artists share aspects of their practice and engagement with Wave Hill through hands-on workshops. Workshops begin in Glyndor Gallery with an introduction to the artist’s work, then continue in the Ecology Building or Wave Hill House for the creative activity.
During the Winter Workspace, Wave Hill’s living collections will be the source for a new series of paintings by Maia Cruz Palileo. Today, use your own family portraits and the inspiration of the Wave Hill landscape to embellish your memories and create new stories. Palileo demonstrates mark-making, brush work and composition techniques to create a painting that brings your family into the scene. Visitors aged 12 and over are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Newcomers and practicing artists alike are welcome.
$25/$15 Wave Hill Members, includes admission to the grounds. Unless otherwise noted, art materials are provided. Advance registration recommended; Winter Workspace Workshops fill up quickly.
