Renovations at the Front Gate

Starting in June, 2019, Wave Hill is launching a capital renovation to make your arrival at the garden safer and more welcoming. Our front entrance is being refreshed, with a new admissions kiosk to replace the old brick structure, a separate entrance gate for pedestrians just south of the existing vehicle gate, new benches and additional lighting. The number of parking places will remain the same and the lot will be repaved. The view of the parking lot from outside the property should remain unchanged.

When complete—in about 18 months—a new entry path will take visitors from the gatehouse directly into our spectacular gardens and landscape.

The New York City Department of Design and Construction will manage the project. During construction, the onsite parking lot will be closed, starting July 1. We will have ample offsite parking with regular shuttle service, and we will also continue to have shuttle service to and from Metro-North’s Riverdale station and #1 subway station at West 242nd Street.

This vital capital renovation is all part of a larger plan to make your experience at Wave Hill better, made possible through the support of the City of New York and private donors.

If you are a Wave Hill Member, you may exchange valid parking for Member for a Day passes, starting May 1. These passes provide free admission to the grounds for your friends and family for special events, including Mother’s Day weekend, Summer Evenings and our beloved Honey Weekend. Not yet a Wave Hill Member? We hope you will join today!

We apologize for any inconvenience during the project. We think you will be very pleased with the new experience of arriving at this wonderful garden. In the meantime, thank you for your patience.
