Part-time Gallery Greeter

Engaging visitors and providing staff support

The part-time gallery greeter works three days a week. This year, contemporary art exhibitions on view include "Water Scarcity: Perpetual Thirst" in the spring and summer and "What We Leave Behind" (working title) in the fall. There will also be six Sunroom Projects by Kevin Quiles Bonilla, Anina Major, Deep Pool, Krystal DiFronzo, Heidi Norton and Amina Ross. This position reports to the Curator of Visual Arts.

Responsibilities

  • Orients visitors to the gallery and engages them with the artwork on view and ensures that visitors are respectful of the art.
  • Monitors and assists with care of the artworks.
  • Provides gallery tours to the public and private groups. The curators will provide background on the exhibitions/artwork and the basic training to lead tours for the public.
  • Collect and enter data and may have occasional clerical tasks and research projects.
  • Ensures Wave Hill’s COVID-19 safety protocols are followed.


Requirements

Must be reliable and committed to the program, enthusiastic, able to take initiative, and have strong interpersonal skills. Experience working with the public and a knowledge of contemporary art is essential. Experience giving tours is a plus. Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office, and ease with data entry are required. Might be of particular interest to art, art history or arts administration students. Must be fully vaccinated.


Schedule

This part-time position requires availability of three days a week, schedule to be determined. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday; two people cover three days each. The hours are from 9:30AM to 5PM with a half-hour unpaid lunch period. Candidates must be able to work from May 22 through December 30, 2022.

Salary

The hourly rate for this position is $17.00.
