Application Deadline: Sunday, August 9 at 11:59PM

The Sunroom Project Space offers artists in the New York City area who are in the early stages of their careers—regardless of age—a chance to develop and showcase a site-specific, solo project in the Sunroom or Sun Porch of Glyndor Gallery at Wave Hill.

Wave Hill invites proposals for artist projects that thoughtfully respond to and engage with the site of Wave Hill—its plant collections, history, design, and architecture—with a focus on the interconnected relationships between nature, culture, and place. For the 2027 season, Wave Hill is especially interested in projects that recognize ancestral wisdom in relation to our connection with the earth and soil. Proposals may explore practices, beliefs, and values passed down through generations, particularly those that foster harmonious relationships with our ecosystems—for example, regenerative farming and agricultural practices, and the care of soil, water, and plant life. We also welcome projects that engage in the history of earth or land art—including concepts, materials, sites, and relationships to place—that intersect with sustainable practices and ancestral wisdom.

Four artists will be selected for solo presentations in the Sunroom and Sun Porch spaces in Glyndor Gallery. Artists receive an honorarium of $2,000 each, exhibition and professional development support, and will have nine to twelve months to research and develop their ideas. Each project is accompanied by a Meet the Artist program that is co-designed with the artist, and a short exhibition essay published both in print and online. The Meet the Artist program provides an opportunity for Wave Hill visitors, the artist’s communities, and others to learn about each artist’s creative process and the themes that shape their work.

Eligibility & Guidelines:
Wave Hill welcomes applications from artists who:

  • Work across media
  • Are in the early stages of their career regardless of education
  • Live within a 50-mile radius of the Bronx
