Family Art Project Manager

The Family Art Project Manager provides creative input and art education guidance for various Education programs and developing art components of curricula. The Family Art Project Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the Family Art Project (FAP), one of the Department’s signature programs, which immerses children, typically aged 3-8 and their families in the pleasures and wonders of Wave Hill’s gardens, grounds and art exhibitions at Glyndor Gallery through hands-on, nature-based, art activities that encourage creativity and imagination. This program runs year-round, with a drop-in format each weekend.

The Manager supervises staff, guest artists, volunteers and manages the Art, Community, Education and Science internship (ACES), a year-round paid program for young people. The Manager leads recruitment, training, and mentorship with support from Education staff. In addition, the Manager will work closely with the Assistant Director of Education to provide creative and pedagogical input and assistance on a variety of interdepartmental programs as needed.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Manages programs, including the content and coordination of day-to-day program facilitation and long-range planning.
- Develops pedagogically appropriate seasonal project lesson plans highlighting new or previously presented themes to promote multicultural perspectives, and nature focused programming.
- Supervises part-time staff and interns including managing work schedules, tracking hours, and coordinating submission of time sheets.
- Coordinates youth internship program including content, planning and annual recruitment of cohorts.
- Oversees purchasing, organizing, and maintaining supplies and materials.
- Maintains program records including staff and supply budgets, contact lists, and attendance statistics.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Education, develops and refines program proposals, curricula, and evaluation of metrics for partners such as New York Public Library and Literacy in Community and Wave Hill visiting Artists.
- Assists with the preparation of seasonal copy and other marketing content.
- Aides with the preparation and analysis of proposals, reports, evaluations, and other documents.
- Supports department and institutional programs as needed.
In addition to teaching and administrative duties, additional requirements include:
- Degree in art, education, art education, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience training and mentoring youth interns.
- Knowledgeable about gardens and nature.
- A minimum of 5 years relevant experience teaching with intergenerational groups in an informal setting.
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while juggling multiple tasks and projects, planning months in advance while responding to day-to-day demands.
- A demonstrated positive approach to problem solving and collaborating with others.
- Experience training and mentoring youth interns.
- Strong interest in Wave Hill’s education programs and mission.
- Cultural competency to work with diverse and local Bronx communities.
- Computer skills that include remote platforms and Microsoft office.
- Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
Schedule and Salary
This is a full-time position reporting to the Assistant Director of Education. The schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30AM to 4:00PM, with the possibility of one remote workday. There is some offsite travel to partner organizations and occasional evenings required. Salary is $60,000, plus benefits including: medical, dental, vision insurance; paid time off; 401k, pension plan and life insurance.
