Djékady is a Mandinka phrase that means “coming together is good.” The result of the collaboration between Grammy-winning musicians Balla Kouyaté (balafon, vocals) and Mike Block (cello, vocals), along with Idrissa Koné (percussion, vocals), Djékady Trio puts Malian music into conversation with American folk and contemporary styles. The band’s energetic nature and deep appreciation for each other’s cultures create an unexpected and beautiful display of music without limitations. Djékady Trio draws danceable rhythms and energetic textures between each instrument through a trust of each other as bandmates that is palpable in the sound. Every song is a trust fall, with each musician leaping to wild and unexpected heights, trusting their bandmates to catch them.
Sunset Wednesdays take place on the Great Lawn. Visitors may bring folding chairs and blankets. Picnicking is permitted on the Great Lawn beginning at 4PM. Glyndor Gallery, The Café and Shop are open until 7:30PM.
