Bronx-based artist Rosemarie Fiore produces artwork using ready-made and customized machines, harnessing their actions by converting them into painting and image generating tools. These machines include lawn mowers, video games, cars, pinball machines, amusement park rides and fireworks. Through her work, Fiore investigates the space that exists between chance and control in an effort to reveal the dynamic dialogue between the two realms. During the Winter Workspace, she will create a large multi-part smoke painting tool inspired by the organic forms, colors and structures of the succulents and cacti housed in Wave Hill’s Conservatory.

Fiore has attended residencies at Art Omi International; Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture; The MacDowell Colony; Roswell Foundation; Sculpture Space and the Bronx Museum’s Artist in the Marketplace. She has received awards from The New York Foundation for the Arts, The New York State Council for the Arts, The Sally and Milton Avery Foundation, The Bronx Council on the Arts, The Walentas-Sharpe Foundation, The Lower East Side Print Shop, NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and Dieu Donné Paper Mill. Fiore received a BA and BFA from the University of Virginia and an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
