Join photographer Benjamin Swett in this three-session workshop devoted to Wave Hill’s trees. Explore new ways of seeing these great trees and successfully photographing them in their fall peaks. Through slide lectures, discussions, outdoor photography, and critiques of student work, the class will consider not only the various techniques for capturing trees but the value of these large woody plants in our physical and mental landscapes.

Photography workshops spend most of the class indoors on a first- floor space in Glyndor Gallery or a space accessible via elevator. Additionally, each week photographers will go out into an area of the garden of their choice. The instructor uses a speaker system in all locations.

Benjamin Swett
Benjamin Swett has taught photography workshops at Wave Hill for more than a decade, and his photographs of New York City’s trees have been exhibited here twice. He is the author of New York City of Trees, which won the 2013 New York City Book Award for Photography, and Route 22, among other publications. His essays about photography, trees and life have appeared in Cabinet, Fiction, Orion, Prism International, Salmagundi, and other publications.
