Winter Workspace
The Winter Workspace is a six- to eight-week residency program that provides artists with free studio space, a financial stipend, and access to Wave Hill’s grounds, plant collection, nature and art libraries, as well as its curatorial and horticultural staff. Artists also have opportunities to engage with visitors through public programs. In addition, the curatorial staff invites arts professionals—including curators, critics, and gallerists—to visit residents in their studios. Since 2010, the Winter Workspace has supported over 180 artists.

I was fortunate to have an incredible cohort and felt very supported by the Wave Hill curatorial team and staff. I believe I created genuine friendships and professional connections that will continue beyond my time at the residency...I feel that the time, space, and community truly strengthened my practice. I have new ideas and material directions that I am excited to continue to explore.
I taped some new ideas on the wall and used the content to seed conversations with visitors to work out some of the ideas and connections. This was very fun. One of those conversations resulted in an invitation to a residency out west this summer. I had been trying to tap into that community for some time, and it finally fell into place at Wave Hill.
The Winter Workspace residency gave me the space for reflection and engagement that my practice needed. From traveling to the scenic Riverdale section of the Bronx to discussing my work with people of all walks, I developed a deeper understanding of how plants impact me and how I can facilitate meaningful conversations about plants with the public.
